Bruto

Konrad Lohöfener

Bruto
Filigree, graphic and void of any frills. With Bruto you get what you see because he has nothing to hide. Both construction and material are openly displayed and constitute the chair’s trademark.

The archetype of a chair

Bruto – Italian for raw, rough, naked. A fine statement for a new chair. We fell in love all the same. Because Bruto is like he is and has nothing to conceal. He shows himself and his construction unashamedly. Moulded wooden seats, a frame of steel wire and ash rails as a connecting element. But as pure as he seems at first glance, Bruto’s construction is not only tough but also slightly swaying and flexible. He can also be stacked easily or can be delivered with armrests.

Material
Legs: Steel powder-coated (fine textured)
Seat and backrest: Beech moulded wood, ash veneer clear varnished
Wood strips: Ash untreated
Slider: Polypropylene (PP)

Note
Bruto is resilient, stackable, comfortable as it is slightly flexible. Comes with or without armrests.

Description

Bruto

Design: Konrad Lohöfener, 2018

Character instead of concealing

Bruto shows himself and his construction unashamedly. Curved lines meet angular strips, the technical appearance of steel meets the warm feel of wood. Bruto‘s individual components are produced by different companies with equally different specialist knowledge. The moulded wooden shells and steel wire frame are produced industrially. Our carpenter surpasses any machine when treating the ash rails. All manufacturing operations are located in Bavaria, most of them in the direct vicinity of our company.

Konrad Lohöfener on Bruto

"Bruto didn’t even start out as a chair; it started as an experiment. My inspiration was an old wooden clothes peg, which gave me the idea of creating a joint that could use the tension of the wood to hold and fix metal tubing. I tinkered around for a while and added a screw and nut to maintain the stability and tension of the joint. That was the starting-point for a whole series of furniture designs. Bruto expresses its own individual attitude. It had a polarising effect here at Moormann, which actually helped to win people over."
