Strammer Max

Max Frommeld

Strammer Max
A rope that tightens when twisted. It needs no more and no less to connect three wood panels and a cross strut to create a stable seat. Why not use a technique for modern furniture that has proven itself for centuries in frame saws?

Well braced

The construction again lends a distinctive character: Side parts, seat and cross brace are simply stuck together. A rope is twisted until the loose connection becomes a stable seat. To stabilize the tension we deliver a rod. Of course it can later be replaced by another object. By a wooden spoon for example or your very own favourite newspaper. We are always delighted to receive inspiring photos: #moormannmitbewohner

Description

Strammer Max

Design: Max Frommeld, 2009

Rock steady all-rounder

A practical all-rounder that makes itself useful everywhere. Whether in the bathroom, the kitchen or in the hall, as a side table or a seat. Packaged in a flat state, the piece is assembled easily and completely without tools. We use a loose rope instead of screws to permanently connect the individual components. And in the event of a problem simple retightening ensures that Strammer Max continues to stand without wobbling. Each package comes with two rope colours to choose from: red + black for FU, blue + black for ash.

The Max family

This piece of furniture borrowed its name from its inventor. Max Frommeld was once part of our creative team. Perhaps his stay in our rural paradise inspired him to create a piece of furniture with a construction that is based on the ancient principle of the frame saw. In any case the result was so captivating that after the stool Strammer Max a bit later the bench Langer Max completed the family series.

Material Properties and Care
Strammer Max Material properties and care

FU Black (birch plywood)

Material properties:

Several birch veneers are cross-glued, creating a material with a high level of dimensional stability. Generally our birch plywood panels are surface-coated or oiled. They are produced in Finland. The slowly-growing trees in the Finnish climate create fine-grain wood of consistently high quality. The following properties can occur: knot inclusions on the edge and possibly different edge colors (image 1), inclusions, glossy stripes or matt grey areas on the surface (image 2).

Cleaning and care:

Light surface soiling on the untreated edges can be removed using fine-grain sandpaper. Coated surfaces can be cleaned using a soft cloth with lukewarm water and a small amount of colourless washing-up liquid. Please only wipe oiled surfaces with a slightly damp cloth and as necessary treat with colourless oil.

Strammer Max Material properties and care

Ash untreated

Material properties:

The solid wood panels are glued together from several ash solid wood lamellas, resulting in a material with high dimensional stability. Depending on the proportion of heartwood and sapwood, the grain of the solid wood panels varies depending on the material. This is not a defect, but underlines the natural vitality of wood as a raw material. The boards are manufactured for us in Bavaria. For maximum purity, we leave the surfaces untreated so that the colour of the wood can change slightly over time. Like a good pair of leather trousers, the wood will also develop a patina over time through use. If you still want to prevent discolouration, you can treat the parts yourself with a common white pigmented wood oil according to the manufacturer's instructions. The following natural characteristics may appear: Knot inclusions on the inside (picture 1), different grain and colouring (picture 2), slight planing cracks on the surface (picture 3).

Cleaning and care:

Light surface soiling on the untreated edges can be removed using fine-grain sandpaper. Dust can be removed with a soft cloth.
